Handwoven pure wool rug

Handwoven pure wool rug

They're finished!! 😍 those who've been following for the last few months may remember that I bought a massive wooden hand loom over the summer. Martha has been experimenting on it and has now produced the first collection of handwoven rugs! These are super thick and soft, pure wool in a range of colours on a strong cotton warp, perfect in front of the fire or next to the bed for cosy toes in the morning! The weaving process is even more laborious than for the hattersley loom, first the warp has to be made in the usual way, then beamed onto the wooden loom and tied in. Then she has to wind the shuttle sticks by hand, feed each one through manually, use wooden peddles to change the heddles and manually beat the weft tight! She also weaves a section in fine yarn to create the binding at each end. When each one is woven it comes off the loom, the binding is sewn on their vintage hand powered sewing machine and they are then washed to full the wool and give it its finished consistency and texture.😲😍😍
